Scope of Data Processing
On every access to our website, some information about the querying computer that is required to transmit the information is processed on our server. The legal basis for this is art. 6 sec. 1 lit. e GDPR. The following information is processed:
- Information about the web browser and the version thereof
- The operating system of the user
- The IP address of the user, which is anonymised directly after the end of the transmission by shortening
- Date and time of the access
- Websites that referred the user to our website
The anonymised data is stored in the logfiles of our systems so that we are able to analyze the usage of the website and react to IT security breaches. The legal basis for this is art. 6 sec. 1 lit. f GDPR.
The processing of the IP address of the user—which constitutes personal data—only takes places directly during the communication process in the main memory of our servers. In the logfiles, only a shortened version of the IP address is stored which cannot be traced back to an individual internet connection and therefore no longer constitutes personal data. The log data is not combined with other personal data of the user. Regarding the current state of technology, it is higly unlikely to impossible that the data in the logfiles can be de-anonymised.
Processing this data is technically required to allow the user to access this website, therefore there is no right to object.
Cookies
Only for persons who have a user account to access the administration area of the webpage and log in there, a session cookie is set in the browser to authenticate their individual page accesses. This is necessary on a strictly technical level and therefore permissible without consent under section 25 subsection 2 of the German Telecommunication and Telemedia Data Protection Act (“Telekommunikation-Telemedien-Datenschutz-Gesetz”, abbrev. “TTDSG”) and article 5 section 3 of the ePrivacy Directive (European Union Directive 2002/58/EC as amended by Directive 2009/136/EC).
The session cookie contains only a random identifier. It does not contain personal data and is deleted automatically when the web browser is closed.
The website nrw-fair.de does not contain any advertisements and does not analyze or track the behaviour of the user. No data about the usage of the website is shared with any third parties.

Matrix
If you contact us via matrix, your matrix ID and any other personal data contained in a message is transferred to and processed on the IT systems of Ruhr-Universität.This data will be retained for at least five years under the internal regulations of Ruhr-Universität Bochum as a public law/statutory corporation. The 1-on-1 communication via matrix is automatically end-to-end encrypted in the current version of the matrix protocol on all suitable clients.
